JoAnn (McCoach) Shaffer of Valeda, KS rural Coffeyville, passed away on Wednesday February 21st at Coffeyville Regional Medical center surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Olney Springs, Colorado on October 22, 1937 to Omer J. Wilcox and Madge (Peery) Wilcox. As an infant she moved with her family to Linn County, KS in Rural Centerville/Parker Kansas.
She graduated from High School from Parker Kansas. She then married Richard E. McCoach in Centerville Kansas, where they had seven children. They later divorced. She was briefly married to Joe Shaffer and they later divorced.
In her earlier years she loved gardening, roller skating and camping and fishing. She worked most of her life as a Certified Medication Nurse's Aide at Medicalodges and did retire from that occupation. She also loved to trade cooking recipes with people.
Survivors include two sons of rural Edna, Kansas; Michael and Beverly McCoach and Dennis McCoach. Five daughters; Lori and Scott Garton of Edna Kansas , Kimberly and Bradley Volmer of Parsons Kansas, Cynthia and Bill Shearhart of Coffeyville Kansas, Tereasa and Doug Stanley of Coffeyville and Bobbie and David Stroud of Raymore, MO; One Brother, Ralph and Sue Wilcox of Liberty Missouri and one sister Juanita and Loran Wilson from Garnett, Kansas. 20 Grandchildren; Wyat Tomlinson, Shannon Noble, Joe Stanley, Shelli Stanley, Brad Stanley, Terrie Wiley, Emily McCoach, Aaron McCoach, Brock Volmer, Brianna Volmer, Erica Dixon, Courtney Garton, McKenzie Garton, Zane Garton, Tyler Garton, Jordan Garton and Zack McCoach, Colton McCoach and Blake McCoach; 9 Great Grandchildren; LeAnna Tomlinson, Rowdy Noble, Bailey Morris , Owen Stanley, Adam Stanley, Brody Volmer, Delaney Volmer, Beckett Volmer, Milan Wiley and one Great Grandchild due in June.
Preceded in Death by her parents, and three sisters: Margaret McDowell, Louise Eddens, Jewell Featherstone and one step-grandson Tim Garton
Honoring JoAnn's wishes cremation has taken place under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. A Memorial Services will be held on Monday February 26, 2018 at 10:00 am at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with Evangelist David Bycroft officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following. The family suggests memorials be made payable to the American Heart Association and they may be sent in care of the Chapel.
