Joe Monroe Calton, 89, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Monday, October 3, 2011 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. Joe was born on January 23, 1922 in Vinita, Oklahoma to James O. Calton, Sr. and Ella M. Chumley. The family moved to Coffeyville in 1926. He was educated in the Coffeyville school system. Joe served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the South Pacific. After the war he moved to Texas and worked as a commercial photographer and night club owner. He started working for Southwestern Bell Corporation in 1953 and worked for them until his retirement. After he retired Joe moved back to Coffeyville. Joe was married twice and divorced twice, he had no children. He enjoyed hunting and his horses. Through the years he had several horses and loved to ride. He also kept up with his hobby of photography. He is survived by one brother, James O. Calton, Jr. and his wife, Joan of Olathe, Kansas and by several nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ella and his two sisters, Margie Thomason and Bertie Ray. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in the Veterans Garden. Chaplin Mike Graham will officiate. Friends may call on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel to sign the guest register.
