Joe Dick

Joe Dale Dick passed away on September 23, 2022, just three days after his 85th birthday in Tulsa, Oklahoma at St. John’s Hospital.

On September 20, 1937, Joe was born to Leo and Frances (Lemmons) Dick in Nowata, Oklahoma where he grew up with his nine siblings.   Joe grew up in Nowata with his parents, brothers, and sisters where he attended grade school and completed his secondary education.

On August 1, 1959, he married Glenna Jean Dunn in Hot Springs, Arkansas, they made their home in South Coffeyville where they raised their children. Glenna preceded him in death on March 27, 2012. He was a member of the Watova Full Gospel Christian Center.  Joe enjoyed playing his bass guitar in church and with the Just Passin’ Through Southern Gospel band.  Joe was a Christian man that loved God and surrendered his life to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Joe’s family said he truly lived his life sharing the love of Christ, he didn't start a single day without spending time reading his Bible.  It was truly his light of guidance throughout his life.  The fruits of his spirit were kindness, patience, he was soft spoken and slow to anger, generous, honest, and even some fun was mixed in with being known as a bit of a jokester.

Joe owned and operated Coffeyville Phillips 66 Service Station offering his expertise of auto repair to the community until his retirement. Many times, he offered his services to those in need without ever charging them a dime for the repair or working to find the least expensive way to make the repair.  He understood how hard it was to make a living and didn’t want inflect hardship on anyone even it meant he had to work harder to provide for his family.   Joe didn’t ever have a need to use a calculator he could figure numbers in his head faster than anyone operating a calculator.  He was a self-taught engineer, finding ways to make things work even when it didn’t have a design yet to do so.

Joe enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and word search though he didn’t have a lot of time to spend working them before retirement, he sure did after retirement.  He also enjoyed watching football, baseball and especially Wheel of Fortune, don’t call or try to have a conversation when Wheel of Fortune was on because you weren’t going to get much conversation out of him then.

His children, Joey Dick, Larry Dick and his wife Vickie, Brenda Dick and Bradley Dick and his wife Rosanna have great respect and love for their dad and will forever cherish their memories and every day they shared with him; he also leaves behind one of his greatest treasures of 8 grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. He has one surviving one sister, Lillian Crisp. He now is at rest with his parents, his wife, Glenna, and daughter Karen Dick who he has missed so, his eight siblings and an infant grandson.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022, at 11 am at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas with his son Pastor Bradley Dick officiating.  He will be laid to rest next to his wife Glenna in Fairview Cemetery. The family has requested memorial contributions be made payable to Gideon’s International and may be left in care of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel.  To leave an online message of condolence, share a memory or view live streaming of the service or watch later visit www.fordwulfbrunschapel.com
