John David Franks of Caney, Kansas passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
John David Franks was born on January 25, 1947 in Independence, Kansas to Fred and Mary Louise (Dougherty) Franks.
He attended Caney schools and was active in basketball. His team went to State! Most of the kids called him “Spider” because of his long arms and legs.
“J.D.” as he was known, was an avid fisherman and hunter. One of his favorite things to do was take the cousins from out of town out to the river and teach them how to fish.
He attended Benedictine College and Kansas State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree.
J. D. worked for ES Webb Company out of Maize, Kansas for 27 years until his retirement. After retirement he continued to farm on his land in Chautauqua County.
J. D is survived by his three sisters, Mary Ellen Greer, Margaret Duke and Martha Gaska (John), also survived by two nephews, five nieces, many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother George who passed in 1962 and a nephew.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish Hall. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel of Coffeyville.
