John Ronald Mitchell, 62, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Thursday, December 1, 2011 in his home surrounded by his loved ones. John was born on August 9, 1949 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Harold and Sue Swank Mitchell. He grew up in Caney, Kansas where he received his high school education. After high school John attended Coffeyville Community College where he received his A.A. Degree. On July 25, 1969 he was united in marriage to Carol L. Walters. The couple made their home in Pittsburg, Kansas. While in Pittsburg, John received his B.S.E.D. and his Masters Degree in Physical Education from Pittsburg State University. He went on to attend the University of Missouri where he received his Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy in 1978. While working as an OTR, he returned to school at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio where he received his Masters Degree in Business Administration in 1998. John worked as an OTR for Aegis with Golden Living for the past three years. John was a member of the First Methodist Church in Caney, Kansas. He enjoyed reading. He loved his almamater The University of Missouri and enjoyed watching their sports teams play. Most of all he loved the time he spent with his grandchildren and family. Surviving to honor his memory is his loving wife, Carol of the home son, Craig Mitchell of Caney, KS daughters, Ann Mitchell of Coffeyville, KS, Kate Mitchell, Caney, KS, Sue Clay and husband, Daniel of Coffeyville, KS father, Harold Mitchell and wife, Patsy of Bartlesville, OK brother, Gregg Mitchell and wife, Paulla of Neodesha, KS stepbrothers, Bobby Sawyer and wife, Linda of Tulsa, OK, Mike Sawyer and wife, Nita of Bartlesville, OK grandchildren, Clifford Mitchell, Vicke Westerfield and Joseph Westerfield he is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sue Mitchell and a sister, Toni Dorty. Memorial services will be held on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Coffeyville. Reverend Gerald Morris will officiate. Inurnment will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Harrison Cemetery in Thayer, Kansas. Friends may call on Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville to sign the guest register.
