Caney Dateline Obituary John Allen Rapp Caney resident John Allen Rapp died May 14, 2006 in Coffeyville. He was 67. John was born January 4, 1939 in Garner, Iowa to John H. and Karin Lynd Rapp. After high school he joined the United States Air Force where he worked with early warning radar systems and retired after a career as an air traffic controller. During his military career, he served in many countries including Turkey, Germany, Okinawa, Korea, Iceland and Thailand. On June 4, 1958 he married Rosalind M. Elliott. The couple was married in Nowata, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Coffeyville V.F.W. Post 1022 and the American Legion of Caney. Survivors include his wife Rosalind Rapp of the home in Caney, a son John A. Rapp, Jr. and wife Lynn, a granddaughter Candace Crow of Denver, Colorado and one grandson Corie Rapp, USAF, Nevada. There are two sisters, Mildred Hernon of Forest City, Iowa and Shirley Netland of Garner, Iowa; a brother-in-law Alvin Nelson, Klemme, Iowa and sisters-in-law Cynthia Rapp of Branson, Texas and Esther Rapp of Garner, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Julie Rapp, 8 sisters, Arlis Gilles, June Nelson, Bonnie Ruppert, Wanda Rapp, Thelma Price, Elvira Welfing, Mavis Hiscocks, Evelyn Hanson; 5 brothers, Milbern, Raymond, Harold, Dale and Calvin Rapp. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 Pm on Thursday, May 18, 2006 in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. Pastor Bill Booe will officiate. Services are under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Coffeyville. In lieu of other remembrances, the family would like memorials to be made to the Coffeyville VFW Post 1022 Flag Fund or the Caney American Legion Flag Fund.
