John Turchek, Jr. 1920 - 2005 John Turchek, Jr., age 84, passed away early Saturday morning, February 19, 2005 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, Coffeyville, Kansas. He was born July 21, 1920 to John Turchek, Sr. and Anna Tyrczuk Turchek in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born and raised in the Cleveland, Ohio area. He attended Lincoln High School in Cleveland. He was employed with Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad until entering the US Army during World War II. John entered the service in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. On May 2, 1945 he married Alice Carroll in Rayville, Louisiana. Alice preceded John in death on January 6, 1996. After John completed his military service in World War II, the couple returned to Louisiana. Mr. Turchek worked in the Railroad Industry and the family lived in several communities in Louisiana, Arkansas and Missouri before coming to Coffeyville in May 1960. Mr. Turchek retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1977 where he worked within the signal Department. John was an Ordained Baptist Minister and a member of the Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church of Coffeyville. He was also a member of the VFW Post 1022 and DAV both of Coffeyville. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen. His hobbies included camping, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family and friends. John and Alice were active members of the Arkabago Campers in Arkansas. Survivors include: one son, John A. Turchek and wife Debbie; two daughters, Joyce M. Wanzer and husband Keith; Donna S. Schoonover all of Coffeyville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-grandsons; two step-great grandsons. He was also preceded in death by his parents, several brothers, sisters and one grandson-in-law, Ted Pryor. Calling hours will be from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday, February 21, 2005 and from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford, Wulf, Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave, Coffeyville. Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford, Wulf, Bruns Chapel. Reverend Wayne Martin, Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church of Coffeyville and Dr. Michael Taylor of Concord Baptist Church of Alma, Arkansas will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church or The American Diabetes Association co The Funeral Home. Military rites by Fort Riley Big Red One of Fort Riley, Kansas.
