Johnny Leon Solomon, 59, Coffeyville, Kansas, died Wednesday night, September 9, 2009 at Henryetta Medical Center, Henryetta, OK. Johnny was born July 9, 1950 at Fanshaw, Oklahoma to Willie Solomon and Jurlene Branstetter Solomon. He joined the U.S. Army in 1972 and was honorably discharged in 1973. Johnny was a self-employed escort driver for overd loads nationwide. He married Marilyn Grant on May 12, 2008 at Eureka Springs, Arkansas and the couple made their home in Coffeyville. Johnny enjoyed his job as an over-the-road truck driver. He also loved collecting old movies, especially the matinee Westerns with Gene Autry, Tom Mix and others. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of the home; his mother, Jurlene Solomon of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two children, Jonathan and Kim Solomon of Springdale, Arkansas; a brother, Billy Solomon and his wife, Glenda of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; a sister, Joy Prater and her husband, Ben of Tulsa; and two grandchildren, Kelly and Kalie of Springdale. He was preceded in death by his father. Graveside funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma. Service and interment are under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Coffeyville. Viewing and visitation will be at Bixby Funeral Home, 13307 South Memorial Drive, Bixby, Oklahoma, from 1- 8 p.m., Tuesday and family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., there.
