JosephLauren Smith, 87 of Rural Coffeyville, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Windsor Place. Lauren was born on May 30, 1920 Southwest of South Coffeyville, OK, the son of Joseph Ira and Minnie Hoffman Smith. He attended Hoffman School of rural South Coffeyville and Lenapah High School. On October 12, 1940, he married Opal Gladys Perkins in Nowata, OK. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2004. Lauren worked for Ludowici-Celadon Tile Company, North American Car Company, and retired from Funk Manufacturing on May 31, 1983. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, hunting, fishing, and was an avid gardener. Surviving to honor his memory are his children, Larry Earlene Smith, Carolyn Jim Enloe, and LaDonna Monroe Joplin, all of Rural Coffeyville, and Janice Ron Walker of Muskogee, OK; grandchildren, Kirk Enloe, Salesa Hancock, Kris Enloe, Salina Meek, Scott Joplin, Shannon Kegerries, Shelley Walker, Wayne Joplin, and Justin Walker; 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Nevada Ryan of Manheim, PA, Bernice Ryan of Vinita, OK, Margie Wharton of Burleson, TX, Vesta Murdock of Coffeyville, KS. Also preceding him in death are his parents, infant son and infant daughter, 4 sisters, Ethel Lemmons, Clara Bowen, Chlora Daily, and Edna Gowen, and one brother, Clifford Smith. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with Reverend Gerald Morris officiating. Interment will follow in Robbins Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. that evening. Following the visitation, the casket will remain closed. Memorial contributions may be given to Harry Hynes Hospice or to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
