Joyce Nadine Owens, 87, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. Joyce was born on September 24, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri to Edward and Verna Curry Cooper. She grew up in South Dakota until moving to Kansas City, Missouri where she received her high school education from Lincoln High. She went on to earn her Nurse Aide Certification. She worked for Coffeyville Regional Medical Center as a Nurse Aide from 1964 until 1984. Joyce was a former member of the Sardis First Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and the mission. She was a current member of the St. James United Methodist Church in Coffeyville also an active member of their choir and mission. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and embroidery. She placed first at the State Fair for her work on an embroidered picture of the 23rd Psalm. She had also made a bed spread with the Lords Prayer embroidered on it. Most of all she enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends. Surviving to honor her memory are her sons, Earl Phillip Lacy, Paul Alexander daughter, Verna Lee Sanders all of Coffeyville, Kansas grandchildren, Xena, Quenton, Lacie, Veloria, Paul, Carnetta, Khalida, Lisa, Karla, Rika, Marlene seventeen greatgrandchildren fifteen greatgreatgrandchildren a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Verna and a brother, Billy Cooper. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. James United Methodist Church in Coffeyville, Kansas. Pastor Steven Griffith will officiate. A private family inurnment will take place at a later time. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the St. James United Methodist Church in Coffeyville these may be left with PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Funeral Home.
