Kaci Mellen

Kaci Ann Mellen known by those who know her best as Grammy Kaci of Edna, Kansas passed away on January 4, 2019 at her home with her family by her side.

Kaci was born on September 20, 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska the first of ten children to Bettie (Pangle) Clements. Kaci's childhood as a military brat gave her and her siblings the opportunity to see much of the world as they were never in one place for too long. After high school she continued her education at Creighton University where she majored in Respiratory Therapy. Kaci made Coffeyville her home in 1979 where she quickly became instrumental in founding the Emergency Medical Services at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She also began teaching EMT/Paramedic courses for the hospital until founding the courses at Coffeyville Community College where she was the instructor for over 25 years up to her retirement in 2006. It was during one of her classes in 1990 that she met Curtis Mellen, the couple was together for over 10 years when they made their unwavering love for one another legal on paper when they were married on July 19, 2001. You would never earn the name Grammy Kaci without the grandchildren, her pride and joy other than her QUILTING. Kaci loved being Grammy and she loved quilting, dedicating a full room of the house specifically for her beloved hobby. Kaci was outgoing, strong-willed, always there for everybody, and no matter what was going on she was going to feed you, even if you weren't hungry she was going to feed you.

Kaci's memories will live on with her husband Curtis Mellen, daughter Tanya Gath her husband Erik, brothers, Kevin Clements, David Clements, and Donald Clements, sisters, Peggy Clements, JoAnne Ziegler, Bonita Rouse, Theresa Carr, and Mary Clements, Grandchildren, Zack Pearson, Joely Gath, and Summer Stimpson, great-grandchildren, Olyvia Pearson and Lane Pearson,many, many nieces and nephews, and her two dogs Lucy and Ginger.

She now rests with her mother, Bettie, sons Daniel Keith Stimpson and Thomas Christopher Stimpson, brother, Vincent Clements, grandson Garrett Stimpson, and Chance Pearson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 1:00pm at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with Pastor Travis Modesitt officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery. Friends are invited to sign the register and greet the family on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Chapel. The family suggests memorials be made payable to the American Cancer Society and they may be sent in care of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel 2405 Woodland Ave. Coffeyville, KS 67337.
