Kenneth H. Burchinal passed away December 14, 2012 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at St. Francis Hospital, after a fall from the stage in the Midland Theatre in Coffeyville, Kansas.
He was born to Frederick Funston Burchinal and Mary Southwick Burchinal on a farm outside of Conway Springs, Kansas on July 21, 1927. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Lou Burchinal.
His surviving family is sister, Elda Yvonne Coon, Clearwater Kansas and a half brother Frederick P. Burchinal and wife Veronique of Athens, Georgia, niece, Belinda Lee Coon of Boco Raton, Flordia great niece Nichole Doddema and husband Peter, Flordia, great nephews, David Coon and wife Laura, Donald Allen Coon of Clearwater, Kansas, Johnathan Coon, Joel Coon and wife Leanna and Nathan Coon. Also included in his Guatemalan family, Robert Mesa and wife Astrid, Astrid Marie Gilbert and husband Marty, Alexandria Gilbert, Maria Gabriela Mena, Marianree Mena, Jorge Cordon and Pablo Hernandez.
He attended Wichita High School North, served in the Army Air Force in Japan. He received a Liberal Arts Degree from Wichita University and a Master Degree from Pittsburg State University. He taught in Coffeyville from 1951 at Field Kindley Memorial High School and later became the Humanities Chairman while teaching Language Arts and Humanities as well as Drama at Coffeyville Community Junior College. He took a one year leave of absent to work as part of the faculty at Georgetown University with the Central American Student Program CASP in Washington, D.C. in 1988. He came back to Coffeyville, Kansas to work for Coffeyville Community Junior College until he retired in 1991. When retired he continued to run the Cultural Arts Center then went on to start the renovation of the Midland Theater.
Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Mr. B will be held on, Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the FordWulfBruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas. Friends may sign the register from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Wednesday December 19, 2012 at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at the Clearwater Cemetery in Clearwater, Kansas at a later date. The family has suggested memorials to the Midland Theater to continue his passion for the restoration of the Midland Theater. Contributions may be left with FordWulfBruns Chapel.
