Kenneth E. "Big Kenny" Smith, Sr., 61, of Altamont, passed away early Monday, February 16, 2015 at his home.
He was born August 30, 1953 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Kenneth Eugene and Dorothy Jean (Deller) Smith.
He grew up and attended school in Coffeyville and later Wann, Oklahoma, where he was a 1971 graduate of Wann High School.
In 1973, he joined the United States Marines. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Coffeyville where he lived until moving to Pittsburg in 1995. In 2013, he moved to Altamont where he had lived since.
He loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and guns.
He and Edna E. Searan were married September 18, 1972 in Coffeyville. They later divorced but had remained close friends through the years.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth E. Smith, Jr., of the home; three daughters, Angela Wary, Coffeyville, KS, Jennifer Trisler and her husband, Dan, Pittsburg, KS, and Katrena Smith, of the home; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Frank Smith and his wife, Dee, Patrick Smith, and Ralph Smith and his wife, Mary Ann, all of Coffeyville, KS; and two sisters, Peggy Seaton and her husband, Dwain, Dearing, KS and Kathy Mitchell and her husband, Bill, Coffeyville, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Kathy Jean; and an infant granddaughter, Meagan Elaine.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Avenue, Coffeyville, KS.
