Laura J. Robson passed at the age of 74 in Coffeyville, Kansas at CRMC after a brief illness on Monday, January 10. 2022.
Laura was the first-born child to Edward “Lee” and Betty J. (Taylor) Brooks in Coffeyville on May 4, 1947, in Coffeyville. Laura attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School and completed her education in Business Management. Laura worked for CRMC for 35 years retiring as the Quality Assurance Risk Manager. She only took a year off before she began volunteering with the Hospital Auxiliary, she was currently the treasurer at the time of her passing.
Saturday, April 24, 1971, was a day never forgotten by Laura, she married her best friend and soul mate Robert Robson. Robert was serving in the US Army at the time of their marriage. Serving in the Army meant moving where they tell you. Rob was sent to Augusta, Georgia for a training where they resided for one week, he couldn’t complete the training because he is color blind. Shirley, Massachusetts was his next assignment. They had 3 days to pack up, travel and find a place to live. Now just imagine, two newlyweds, their funds were limited and needing to finding not one but two places to live in just a week and a half. One thing a young service man does not have is a large income, so having enough money for two deposits on places to rent, gas money and food was a real challenge. Just after the arrival of the first child Heather, Rob was stationed in Germany. Laura and Heather joined Rob shortly after her birth. Christmas was approaching and with just $2 in their pocket Laura was worried about not having a tree for their daughters first Christmas. Rob set out to find a tree with the last $2 (exchange of 3 DEM at that time) to their name, just when things seemed impossible, God answered their prayer; a friend of their’ s came pulling up to their efficiency apartment with a Christmas tree just for them. Rob and Laura learned a lot about survival, saving and creating budget in their early years of marriage, that would also explain how they have celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Laura and Rob loved to travel and go on adventures. She was always up to travel if it didn’t involve riding on Rob’s motorcycle no matter if it had two wheel or his newer purchase of a trike. She also was not a fan of his bass boat, but she loved cruise boats. She often spoke of their trip to the Boston War Memorial where she climbed to the top even pregnant with Heather to be able to see the view and to honor those soldiers who had sacrificed their life for freedom. She also hiked up Mt. Washington with Rob on another trip. Other adventures that Rob enjoyed while waiting on a bench waiting for Laura included flying over the Grand Canyon, and conservatory elevators.
Laura started playing the piano as a young girl on a piano that was given to her. When Laura was finally able to afford to purchase a new piano, she gifted her old piano to another little girl so she could learn to play as well. Laura has always had a great concern for children, being the oldest child, she was little Momma to her sisters. Their parents worked shift work often leaving little time to prepare meals so as a young teen Laura always prepared the evening meal for, she and her sisters. Laura was a very literal thinker, but books were a way to expand those thoughts. She has always been an avid reader, riding her bike as a young girl to the library weekly to check out new books, as technology advanced, she purchased a Kendall so that she could always have a book readily available. Reading was a way to learn of places she dreamed of traveling to until it was later afforded, learn of cultures and for her personal knowledge and entertainment. When Laura’s children were school age, she became very active in PTA, she was the leader behind starting the Latch Key Kid program at Whittier School. She later served several years on the USD 445 School Board. Laura and Rob are members of Coffeyville First Nazarene where Laura taught Sunday School.
Laura adored her children and spoiled her grandchildren rotten. Every day she packed Heather and Eric’s lunch before work and taking them to school. She made them soup for their thermos, carefully place a Little Debbie treat or homemade no-bake cookie and a drink for them daily. Laura loved to cook and bake and always provided a nutritious meal for her family. Her grandchildren hold special memory of their grandma and will never question her love for them.
All that speak of Laura have a common memory that she was so loving, energetic, honest and loads of fun person to be around.
Though loosing Laura is the hardest thing her husband Rob has experienced, he will forever treasure the love, the life shared and their adventures; children who adored their mother and morn her loss, Heather and her husband Xavier Hernandez and Eric Robson and his wife Rhonda; grandchildren who loved her so; Sierra Hernandez, Breanna Hernandez and Liam Robson; forever little sister, Rita and her husband David Hanna; numerous nieces, nephew and friends that treasure her in their live as well as extended family, friends, co-workers and acquaintances. Family that we are confident were there to help welcome her to her eternal home in Heaven are her parents Lee and Betty Brooks, second born sister, Lelia and her husband Tom Polk.
Funeral services to celebrate Laura’s life will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022, at 10 am at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville with Pastor Joel Thompson of Central Nazarene will be officiating, burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
