Obituary Lawrence T. Benning Rural Coffeyville resident Lawrence T. Benning died early Wednesday morning, June 28, 2006 in Coffeyville. He was 86. Lawrence was born April 9, 1923 in Coffeyville to Herman Benjamin and Mary Elizabeth Mavers Benning. He grew up in rural Coffeyville and attended Walter Johnson School. He later attended Holy Name Catholic School and Field Kindley High School. In June 1944 he married Osia Louella Shores. They made their home East of Coffeyville where he farmed and ranched. She preceded him in death in 1983. On February 29, 1984 he married Christine L. Fitzsimmons Denton. They made their home on the farm East of Coffeyville where they farmed and ranched. Mr. Benning was a lifetime member of the Holy Name Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 0991 of Coffeyville. Lawrence enjoyed training and riding mules while coon hunting. He is survived by his wife Christine L. Benning of the home, step-children; Jackie and Wanda Denton of Tyro, Jason and Dana Denton of Edna and Shelly Robinson of St. Joseph, Missouri; a brother Richard Benning of Coffeyville, sisters Marie Metzinger of Coffeyville, Mary Katherine Green and Adaline Ranes both of Independence. There are seventeen step-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren surviving along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Osia Benning, Brothers Roy, Rayfield, William and Martin; two sisters Josephine and Alice. The Rosary will be said at 7:00 PM Sunday evening, July 9, 2006 in the Holy Name Catholic Church. The Catholic Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 10, 2006 at the Holy Name Catholic Church. Father Jerome Spexarth will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
