L.E. England

L.E.Gene England, 96, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Monday, July 9, 2012 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. Gene was born on May 30, 1916 in Lamar, Arkansas to John and Ada Pearson England. He attended schools in Arkansas. He came to Coffeyville from Arkansas in 1936 where he lived and worked at Beeson Dairy. In February of 1941 he entered the United States Army where he served four and a half years. Three of those years were served in the European Theater. On December 20, 1941 he was united in marriage to Doris Powell in San Antonio, Texas. He was associated with Foodtown Grocery Store for seven years and in 1959 he became associated with Elmores IGA. Gene was manager for twentythree and a half years at Elmores. He retired in 1982 but continued to work part time for two more years. He was an active member of the First Christian Church where he was elder and trustee. He will be remembered for working well with others. He believed highly in the golden rule. He and Doris enjoyed many things together mostly music, sports and news. Gene tried to live every day to the fullest. Surviving to honor his memory are his daughter, Donna Freeman and husband, Buddy of Grand Lake, Oklahoma son, Marvin England and wife, Mary Beth of Coffeyville, Kansas four grandchildren nine greatgrandchildren and a brother, Lawrence England and wife Anna Marie of Clarksville, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ada loving wife, Doris three brothers and a sister. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville. Pastor Gerald Morris will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery Veterans Patio. Military Honors will be provided by Ft. RileysBig Red One. Friends may call on Thursday, July 12, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home to sign the guest register. Family will greet friends Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society these may be left with the funeral home.
