Obituary LeRoy L. Deacon Independence resident LeRoy L. Deacon died Wednesday, June 28, 2006 in Coffeyville. He was 86. Leroy was born February 23, 1920 in Oklahoma to Robert and Cora Riley Deacon. He grew up on a farm South of Edna, Kansas. He served in the US Army during WWII. He received his Honorable Discharge in December 1945. He was wounded in action and became disabled. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with One Silver Service Star. On January 21, 1948 he married Rosalie Hawkins in Coffeyville. They made their home in Coffeyville where he did carpentry and mechanic work. Leroy loved his family and enjoyed time with his favorite dog Smoltzie. He is survived by three sons, Floyd Deacon Sr, and Diana Ryan and daughter Billie Ryan, Jim Deacon both of Coffeyville and Tim Deacon and Amy Benson of Independence, Daughters are Diana Turnage of Coffeyville, Pam McElliott of Shawnee Mission, Kansas and Sandy Watson of Colorado. There are two sisters, Thelma McMurray of Madison, Illinois and Marie Carson of Independence, Missouri. There are several Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rosalie in December of 2003, two daughters Carol Ann Deacon and Martha Alexander, two son-in-laws Bill Alexander and Doug Turnage, a grandson Richard Miller, brothers Ernest, Robert and Ray Deacon. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday July 5, 2006 in the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Rusty Hammer will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday 5 pm until 9 pm and Monday 9 am until 9 pm at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
