Letha Mae Spitzmiller, 94, Coffeyville, died Sunday afternoon at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Letha was born May 8, 1915 at Renfrow, Oklahoma to Jesse H. Moreheart and Flossie E. Farris Moreheart. She grew up in Alva, Oklahoma and graduated high school, there and attended Northwestern State University at Alva. Letha married Arthur L. Spitzmiller, Sr. on May 8, 1937 at Alva. The couple lived in Alva for a short time before moving to Anthony, Kansas and then to Coffeyville in the early 1940s and has been a resident since. Letha started out as a nurses aide before going to nursing school and receiving her LPN license. She worked for Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in the OBGYN, Maternity and Heart Units. Letha retired in the early 1970s after more than 20 years of service. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge, VFW Auxiliary, the local Grange Club, the Old Fiddlers amp Pickers Club and Grace Fellowship Church of Coffeyville. Letha loved to dance and travel the world. She enjoyed singing and was an avid card player. Survivors include her son, Arthur Spitzmiller, Jr. and his wife, Caroline of Edna, Kansas one brother, MurrellCurly Morehart of Alva 15 grandchildren numerous greatgrandchildren and one greatgreatgranchild. She was preceded in death by her husband by her parents by a daughter, Sue Ann Spitzmiller by a stepdaughter, Juanita Loghry by two stepsons, Harold and Marvin Spitzmiller by four brothers, Johnie, Paul, Claud and Carl Moreheart and by a sister, Lenice Joachim. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel with Rev. Gerald Morris officiating. Interment will follow in Coffeyvilles Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of PenwellGabel Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 18 p.m., Tuesday and the family will be on hand to receive guests from 68 p.m. Lethas family requests donations to the Alzheimers Foundation, CRMC Foundation and Grace Fellowship Church. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
