Loren Dwayne Coffey, Sr., 81, of Afton, Oklahoma and formerly of Coffeyville, Kansas, died at his home near Afton, Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Loren was born October 16, 1929 at Caney, Kansas to Walter Coffey and Nora Miller Coffey. He grew up in Caney and received his education there. Upon his graduation from high school, Loren went to work in construction, helping to build the bridge at Hulah Lake, west of Copan, Oklahoma. Shortly after that, Uncle Sam called and Loren answered, serving as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Caney and later married Joan Duvall on January 30, 1954 at Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The couple lived in Coffeyville, South Coffeyville and for a time in California. Loren worked for the coop 31 years before retiring as a truck driver for Farmland in 1991. The Coffeys moved to the Grand Lake area 12 years ago. Loren was a lifetime member of the Coffeyville VFW Post 1022 and American Legion Post 20, as well as a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and horseshoes. This father of seven was known for being a good dad. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan of the home in Afton three sons, Curt Morrison and his wife, Margaret and John Morrison, all of Westville, Oklahoma and LorenWayne Coffey, Jr. and his wife, Sherrie of Coffeyville four daughters, Betty Giese of Coffeyville, Pat Tate of Garnett, Kansas, Anna Allen and her husband, Jim of Joplin, Missouri, and Debra Sjolander and her husband, Timer of Parsons, Kansas a foster daughter, Gloria Noblett and her husband, Bruce of Coffeyville 21 grandchildren 31 greatgrandchildren and 31 greatgreatgrandchildren. Loren was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, WalterW.C. Coffey. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 2:00 pm at PenwellGabels FordWulfBruns Chapel with Sam Richey officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Nowata, Oklahoma, under the direction of PenwellGabel Funeral Home amp Crematory. Visitation will be Monday, February 28, from 9am8pm with the family receiving guests at the funeral home from 68pm.
