Mabel Lucille Thomas Mabel Lucille Thomas departed this life on Saturday August 26th, 2006 at the Coffeyville Regional Memorial Hospital. She was 100 years, 11 months and 13 days. She was born Mabel Lucille McKnight on September 13th, 1905 to Murch and Hilma SegerMcKnight in rural Edna, Kansas. She resided in the Edna community her entire life. She grew up and attended school in Edna and graduated from Edna High School. She later attended Pittsburg State University where she earned her teaching certificate. On May 9,1928 she was united in marriage to J. Paul thomas. They made their home in Enda where they farmed around Edna and Altamont areas. Mabel worked outside the home in several positions but mostly she was a homemaker to her loving family. In later years they operated a Record Keeping and and Income tax preperation business. She loved being with her family and enjoyed time with the grandchildren. She always kept cookies on hand for them. Mabel enjoyed such hobbies as fishing, quilting, and crocheting. The children remember her sewing patches on their jeans and sometimes there were many patches. Mabel lived at the Golden Age Retirement Apartments in Edna for several years and most recently was a resident of Windsor Place in Coffeyville. She was a lifetime member of the Edna First Baptist Church. Survivors include her son Alan L. Thomas of Afton, Oklahoma and a daughter Donna L. Lotz of Edna. Her grandchildren are Mike Lotz, Terri Lawrence, Alan Lotz and Brett Thomas. The great-grandchildren are Caitlin Lawrence, Adam Lawrence, Blaine Lotz, Alan Leon A.J. Lotz Jr. Triston Lotz, Travis Thomas and Tiffany Davis. The great-great-grandchildren are Ethan Thomas and Dylon Rushin; a brother Vernon McKnight and a sister-in-law and best friend Nellie McKnight Of Edna. There are many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband J. Paul Thomas and three brothers, Lawrence, Emmett and Lewis. Services are 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 30, 2006 in the Edna First Baptist Church. Pastor Charles Chuck Evans will officiate and burial will follow in the North Edna Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9 AM until 9 PM at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel to sign the guest register. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 pm until 8 pm. at the Penwell-Gabel funeral Home. The family request memorials be made to the Edna First Baptist Church.
