Marie Potter McCartney, 103, passed away August 12, 2009 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. Marie was born April 18, 1906 in Riverton, Kansas to Charles Andrew and Nellie Josephine Bosley Potter. She attended Riverton Elementary School and graduated from Galena High School in 1924. She attended Pittsburg State Teachers College. On December 25, 1925 she married John B. McCartney in Galena. Prior to moving to Coffeyville in 1937 they lived in Miami, Oklahoma; Quapaw, Oklahoma and Baxter Springs, Kansas. Marie was a homemaker and worked part-time in her husbands drug store at Eighth and Central. She was an avid golfer and played until she was 90 years old. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends. She was a life time member of the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as Deacon and participated in the womens groups for many years. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, five sisters and her son, J.B. McCartney. She leaves her daughter, Mary Jean May of Coffeyville, grandsons Andy May and wife, Aurelia, the Woodlands, TX; Jeff May, Prairie Village, Kansas; John A McCartney, Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughters Kate McCartney, Kansas City, Missouri; Melissa May Uhey and husband, David, Larkspur, Colorado, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville, Kansas on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made in Maries memory to the First Presbyterian Church or Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.
