Marjorie LeotaMargie Smith, 88, of Parsons, Kansas and formerly of Coffeyville, died Tuesday morning, June 7, 2011 at Elmhaven West Nursing Home of Parsons. Margie was born May 4, 1923 at Noxie, Oklahoma to Sherman LeroyRoy Witwer and Opal Pollett Witwer. She grew up in the WannNoxie area and was a graduate of Wann High School and attended Coffeyville Junior College. Margie married Ray L. Smith on March 15, 1942 at the ministers home in Coffeyville, Kansas. The couple lived in several locations as Ray was a member of the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the European Theater. While her husband was overseas, Margie worked for the Coffeyville Southwestern Bell office. She worked for many years at Gibsons Discount Center in both Coffeyville and Independence. Later the Smiths both worked at Midwest Real Estate in Coffeyville. Margie retired from Midwest Real Estate in 2001. They moved to Parsons five years ago. Margie was a member of Coffeyvilles First United Methodist Church. She will be remembered as a feisty, highspirited woman who dearly loved her family and enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves baseball. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Ray, of the home one son, Terry Smith and his wife, Dixie of Parsons one sister, Theda Smith of Lubbock, Texas two granddaughters, Jordan Rose and her husband, Micah and Allison Smith, all of Lawrence, Kansas and a greatgranddaughter, Kayin Rose. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a daughter, Cheryl Lackey in 1980. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2011 at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel with the Rev. John Collins officiating. Interment will be in Robbins Cemetery, west of Coffeyville under the direction of PenwellGabel Funeral Home amp Crematory. Visitation will be Thursday, 9am8pm with the family receiving guests at the funeral home from 68 pm. Donations may be made to Southeast Kansas Respite Services and may be left at the funeral home.
