Martha Lee Maggard 1921-2005 Martha Maggard, age 84, of Coffeyville, died Saturday, October 22, 2005 in the Hospice Unit, at the St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born July 31, 1921 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Clarence Sprague and Louisa Franks Sprague. Martha married Charles Winfred Maggard on December 27, 1938 in Nowata, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1993. Martha lived most of her life in Coffeyville, attending the Coffeyville Schools through the 8th grade. In November, 2000, she moved to Smithville, Texas. Due to an illness, she returned back to Coffeyville on September 6, 2005 and made her residence at the Windsor Nursing Home in the Cambridge Unit, room 21. She worked as a homemaker, a baby-sitter, and did house cleaning and odd jobs. She also worked at Newberrys, on the downtown square, during the holidays. She was a member of the 1st Assembly of God Church in Coffeyville, Kansas, since 1950. She and her husband retired as custodians, at the church, for over 25 years. Martha and her husband ministered for several years at the former Welch Nursing Home, in Coffeyville, as well as the Medical Lodge. They also filled in for Roy DuVall at the Windsor Nursing Home. She did quilting with the ladies of the church for Missionaries serving the Indians in New, Mexico.She loved and served her Dorcas Sunday School Class as Secretary. She worked with the Jr. Missionettes, was a Sunday School teacher and served as Superintendent in the Childrens Beginners Department. She was dearly loved by her Sunday School children. She was also well-known, at church, for her apple pie, helping in the kitchen for funeral dinners, for her home-grown strawberries and giving to many. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Survivors: Son: Winfred Ray Maggard and wife Alice of Coffeyville. 2 Daughters: Virginia Searcy of Smithville, TX and Deloris Smith and husband O.B. of Enid, Oklahoma 2 Brothers: Franklin and Lewis Sprague of Coffeyville. 4 Sisters: Louise Tosh, Maybelle Wright, Nadine Slaton and Phyllis Hall, all of Coffeyville. 7 Grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren, with Brittani Elaine Maggard, of Waller, TX, being the oldest of all the Grandchildren. Preceded in death by: 1 Brother, 2 Sisters and 2 Grandchildren Calling hours will be from 8a-8p, Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas. Family will receive friends from 6p-8p at the Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 10am, Thursday, October 27, 2005 at the First Assembly of God Church, 1504 W. 8th St., Coffeyville, Kansas. Reverend James Crandall will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Penwell-Gabel Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville. Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel is in charge of the arrangements
