Martha L. Payden, 86, passed away Sunday morning August 16, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Martha was born December 22, 1922 South of Liberty, Kansas to Lee Goodson and Mollie Tole Goodson. In 1946, Martha married Lloyd Frost in Tijuana, Mexico; they later
orced. In 1951, she married George Reister in Bentonville, Arkansas. He preceded her in death in 1980. In 1981 she married Emerald Payden, who also preceded her in death in 1987. Martha worked at the Ammunition Plant in Parsons, Kansas. She was also an operator for Southwestern Bell, a riveter for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, California, ran the soda fountain at Newberrys in Coffeyville, Lee Sewing Ctr. in Cherryvale, Kansas and Continental Can in Coffeyville. She was also employed at Automotive Controls Corporation in Independence, Kansas until her retirement in 1984. Marie was active in the VFW Auxiliary and loved to bowl and play bingo. She also enjoyed fishing and spending time with her friends and grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Michael Reister and his wife Wanda of Franklin, Wisconsin, Danny Reister and his wife Maggie of Liberty, Kansas, her daughter Paula Walters and her husband David of Little Rock, Arkansas, stepchildren, Bernice Dickerson, Darold Payden, Don Payden and Dean Payden, one sister, Connie Moore of Cherryvale, Kansas, nine grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. Also preceding Martha in death was a step-son, a sister, Jo Transue and two brothers, Jack and Norval Goodson. A memorial service will be held at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas on Saturday August 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. Wayne Norton officiating. Family and friends may sign the register Friday, August 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. To leave a special message for the family online, visit www.penwellgabelcoffeyville.com.
