Mary Ellen Eye age 95 of Coffeyville entered her eternal resting place on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Windsor Place.
Mary Ellen was born on December 27, 1922 near Coffeyville in Fawn Creek Township to William Lembeck and Helen (Keeler) Singleton. Her family later moved to Oklahoma near Lenapah. Mary Ellen was eager to learn, starting school at an early age with her aunt who was a teacher at Foster School, a one room school before the age of six, she entered high school at the age of twelve. Mary Ellen also helped care for her Mother and still was able to graduate early from Lenapah High in 1940. On September 27, 1941 she married the love of her life, Elton Lee Eye Jr., in Lenapah. Together they lived most of their lives on their farm near Angola, Kansas. Mary Ellen was a farmer's wife, a mother, a grandmother, a friend, and a wonderful cook. She cooked for school children for four years at Angola School.
Mary Ellen's legacy lives on through her son, Anthony Eye and his wife, Carlene of Mesa, Arizona; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren. Mary Ellen is resting with her husband of more than fifty-four years, her parents, her daughter, Mary Lee Eye and her brother, Joseph William Lembeck.
A Memorial service celebrating the life of Mary Ellen will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas at 1:00 pm with Evangelist David Bycroft officiating. Inurnment will take place at Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville immediately following the service. The family request that memorial contributions be made payable to South Coffeyville United Methodist Church, contributions may be left in care of the chapel.
