Mary Alice Gilchrist, 80, Coffeyville, Kansas, died early Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Galichia Heart Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. Mary was born June 1, 1931 at Garnett, Kansas to Fredrick F.Fred Campbell and Norah E. Melton Campbell. She grew up in Garnett and graduated high school with the class of 1949. After graduation, Mary moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and went to work as a secretary for Oklahoma Steel Fastenings. While in Tulsa, she met and later married Charles M.Chuck Gilchrist. The couple was married June 28, 1952 at Tulsa and made their home there for 25 years, while raising a family. The Gilchrists moved to Dallas, Texas and then to Coffeyville in 1980. Mary was active in Christian Womens Club, Stone Croft Ministries and her church, Grace Fellowship. She enjoyed needlepoint and was a very creative and fun loving person who was always the first to greet you with a smile and never met a stranger just a new friend. Survivors include two sons, Fred A. Gilchrist of Coffeyville and Jim K. Gilchrist of Antarctica one daughter, Karen Davidson and her husband, Jerry of Coffeyville a nephew, Jesse Brown of Georgia one niece, Lanette BrownGiese and husband, DuaneButch Giese of New Mexico and a greatnephew, Jesse M. Brown of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Chuck on June 8, 2002. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Grace Fellowship Church with the Rev. Gerald Morris officiating. Interment will be in Coffeyvilles Fairview Cemetery under the direction of PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, Friday, 9 a.m. 5 p.m. Memorials may be made to Grace Fellowship Church and those donations may be left at the funeral home.
