Mary Ellen Jordan, 86, Coffeyville, Kansas, died Sunday morning, February 7, 2010 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Mary Ellen was born May 7, 1923 in Kay County, Oklahoma, just north of Enid, to Frederick G. Lemasters and J Birdeen Lowry Lemasters. She began her schooling in Mulvane, Kansas, but graduated from Independence High School in 1941 and the next year attended Independence Community College. Mary Ellen worked for Civil Service from 19421947. She attended classes at Vance Air Force Base in Enid and help start the Army Air Base in Independence. On December 23, 1945, Mary Ellen married William D. Jordan, Sr. at Independence. Mr. Jordan preceded his wife in death April 19, 1989. In February of 1948, she went to work for Gilmore Insurance, retiring in 1988 as office manager and agent. After the death of her husband, Mary Ellen went to work parttime for Newkirk, Dennis amp Buckles Insurance. She was a member of Coffeyvilles First United Methodist Church, the VFW Auxiliary and Womens Bowling Association. Mary Ellen was an avid bowler well into her 80s. Survivors are one son, William D. Jordan, Jr. and his wife, L. Diane of Pleasanton, Kansas one granddaughter, Nicole A. Lowe and her husband, Brian of Prescott, Kansas two greatgrandchildren, Dakota Brian Lowe and Brialee Nicole Lowe other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband and by two brothers and a sister. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 12, 2010 at Coffeyvilles Restlawn Cemetery with Rev. J. Collins officiating. Service and interment are under the direction of PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, 9 am8 pm.
