Mary Jean May, age 85, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Asbury Village in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Mary Jean was born February 26, 1927 to John Blackburn and Marie Potter McCartney in Quapaw, Oklahoma. She graduated from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville, Kansas in 1945 and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the University of Kansas in 1950. From 1949 to 1975 she was married to Donald L. May. They lived in Lawrence, Kansas, Morland, Kansas and Mission, Kansas. She had a kind friendly spirit, great smile and made friends easily.
She was a residential real estate agent in the Kansas City area for sixteen years. She was employed for 15 years before retiring as administration supervisor for the Association of Records Managers and Administrators in Prairie Village, Kansas. In 1996 she moved back to her home town of Coffeyville and cared for her Mother until she passed away in 2009.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville and served as Elder and Deacon. She was a member of P.E.O. chapter DR. She served on the Coffeyville Library Foundation Board. She was a past member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary and the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a Delta Gamma Sorority Member.
She was preceded in death by her father, her mother and her brother J.B. McCartney.
She leaves her sons John Andrew May and wife, Aurelia of The Woodlands, Texas, Jeffrey Lawrence May of Prairie Village, Kansas, daughter Melissa May Uhey and husband David of Larkspur, Colorado. She also leaves Grandsons Derek Uhey, John Blackwood May, Dan Pugh and wife Lynn, Tom Pugh and wife Brooke, Sean Clouse and wife Lyra, Granddaughter Krysty Kling and husband Michael, and 9 great grandchildren.
The family has suggested memorials to the First Presbyterian Church, 402 W. 8th, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337 and contributions may be left at the FordWulfBruns Chapel.
