Mary Lucille Watts, 98, Coffeyville, Kansas, died late Thursday night, September 24, 2009 at Windsor Place Care Center, Coffeyville. Lucille was born October 5, 1910 at Wayne County, North Carolina to Josiah Mitchell and Annie Harmon Mitchell. She grew up on her parents tobacco farm in North Carolina. Lucille married Bython Luby Gurley in 1935. Mr. Gurley preceded her in death in 1962. Lucille moved to Coffeyville in 1967 and on March 8, 1971, she married Everett E.Shorty Watts at Independence, Kansas. Shorty passed away on August 2, 2005. Lucille was a nurse aide for Medical Lodge Nursing Home for many years , before retiring in the early 1980s. She was a member of Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church and had also attended Coffeyvilles First Church of the Nazarene. Lucille loved children and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She genuinely loved to cook, raise vegetables and flowers. Survivors include one son, Luby Alton Gurley and his wife, Nancy of Coffeyville; two daughters, Linda Long and her husband, Evi of Dearing, Kansas and Judy Prince and her husband, Robert of Heathsville, Virginia; eleven grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Along with two husbands, Lucille was also preceded in death by her parents; by a son Rayford Wilton Gurley in 1975; by five brothers, Luby and Coy Mitchell, as well as, three infants and by two sisters, Pauline Moore and Cylene Kornegary. Funeral services will by 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 28, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, Coffeyville. Interment will follow in Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday and the family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Donations may be made to the Windsor Place Activity Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
