Maryellen Staton passed away from natural causes on Sunday, October 13, 2013. She was 96 years old.
Maryellen was born June 18, 1917 in Coffeyville to Mason and Verdie Richardson Wallingford. She was a lifelong resident of Coffeyville, graduating from Field Kindley High School and Coffeyville Junior College.
On December 31, 1938, she married Orval J. Staton, a union that lasted until his death in 1997. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Staton was employed for many years as the Deputy Clerk of the Montgomery County District Court.
Despite becoming legally blind from macular degeneration, she remained in her home until the age of 90, when a fall resulted in two broken legs. Since then, she has been a resident of Windsor Place.
In addition to her husband, Maryellen is predeceased by her parents, Mason Verdie Wallingford two brothers, Lisle and Joe Wallingford infant son Joe Dallas and soninlaw Warren Edmundson.
Survivors include daughters Sandi Edmundson of Gladstone, Mo., and Julie Jim Owen of Coffeyville and one son, Jim Staton of Coffeyville. Surviving grandchildren are Liz Edmundson, D.D. Zimmerman David, and Eric Edmundson Jennifer of Gladstone, Mo. Sarah Owen of Coffeyville and Michael Owen Afton of Niotaze and Jennifer Staton and Julie Staton of Coffeyville. She is also survived by nine greatgrandchildren: Mackenzie, Alex, Olivia and Nick Edmundson Mark and Kelsey Zimmerman of Gladstone Kale and Addison Owen of Niotaze and A.J. Hudnell of Coffeyville.
She is also survived by nieces Jann Pendry Chugg of Florida, Ruth Carter and Almeda Wallingford of Texas, and nephew Ben Wallingford Josie of Colorado.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, October 21, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at FordWulfBruns Chapel. The family will greet friends Sunday evening at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church these may be left with the funeral home.
The family wants to give special thanks to the wonderful, caring staff at Windsor Place for their kind and thoughtful attention given for the past six years to our mother, grandmother, and great mo.
