Coffeyville resident, Maxine Bartholomew entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 7, 2007. She was 67. Maxine was born January 13, 1940 in Independence, Kansas to Merle Houck and Martha Clark Simmons. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Jim Simmons who she called dad. She graduated high school at Wayside, Kansas. She married Clifford Squirt Bartholomew on February 27, 1984 in Miami, Oklahoma. Maxine enjoyed camping, fishing, bingo and auto racing. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She is survived by her husband, Clifford of the home; daughters, Linda Davis of Coffeyville, Nancy Scholes of Pittsburg, Dee Hannah of Oklahoma City, Lorre Williams of Russell, Cyndi Rosenhoover of Independence and Vickie Carter of Pittsburg; sons, Russell Bartholomew of Afton and Bill Lowe of Coffeyville; sisters, Beulah Olsen and Nancy Winebrenner both of Independence; brothers, Terry Houck of Independence, Leon Houck of California, Bob Houck of Tulsa, Melvin Houck of South Coffeyville, John Houck of Coffeyville and Mike Houck of Independence; nineteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel to sign the guest register. Family will greet friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. These may be left with the funeral home.
