Merideth G. Powell 1928 -- 2006 Merideth G. Powell, 77, Coffeyville, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at Medicalodge in Coffeyville. She was born April 13, 1928, in Neodesha, Kansas the daughter of Ernest Lee and Pauline Bryan Shetler. Merideth was raised in Coffeyville attending Coffeyville Schools and graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1947. Merideth worked as a car hop at Fields Drug Store which used to be known as Diggs Inn. After high school, she worked at the Coffeyville Credit Association. She later worked for the Coffeyville Packing Company as a bookkeeper and was also a waitress at the Dearing Cafe. At the time of her retirement, she was working at Wal Mart. She married Jack Powell in 1957. He passed away November 2, 1994. She is survived by: 2 Sons: David Powell Coffeyville, Kansas Kris Powell Coffeyville, Kansas 1 Brother: Ernest Lee Shetler Memphis, Tennessee 1 Sister: Carolyn Watson Augusta, Kansas 4 Grandchildren 4 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Brian Powell in 1988 and one sister Marilyn Nelson in 2002. A funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2006, at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow the service at the Penwell-Gabel Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Merideth will lie in state from 1-9:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and left in care of the funeral home.
