Merle Wesley Campbell, 90, Coffeyville, passed away early Wednesday at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Merle was born July 17, 1915, in Republic, Kansas, the son of Wesley H. and Gertrude Mae Smith Campbell. He attended schools in Republic, Kansas. He worked for various service stations and later purchased his own service station and owned that for three year. He later moved to Junction City and worked for J.C. Penney until 1942 when he enlisted in the Army Air Corp at Ft. Riley. He was later stationed in Coffeyville where he remained until he was discharged in March of 1946 as a Staff Sgt. He went to work for Sears Roebuck and Company and worked for Sears until 1965. After his career at Sears, he worked as a rancher until his retirement. He was a member of the Southeast Kansas Mounted Posse and the Moose Lodge. He was an avid card player and enjoyed bird hunting for many years. On January 1, 1947, he married R. Maxine Simpson. She survives. He is survived by: Sister: Ruth Hunt Lees Summitt, Mo. Many Nieces and Nephews A graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 23, at the Robbins Cemetery West of Coffeyville. Mr. Campbell will lie in state from 3-8:00 p.m. today at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or to the Humane Society of America left in care of the funeral home.
