Merriam Smith

Merriam Anna Smith, 90, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.

Merriam was born on August 13, 1924 in Merriam, Kansas to Pleas and Eva (White) Shamblin. She grew up in Coffeyville where she attended school. On June 22, 1940 she married the love of her life, Edgar L. Smith in Independence, Kansas. The couple made their home in Coffeyville where Merriam filled her time taking care of her family. Edgar preceded her in death on January 25, 2012 after 71 wonderful years of marriage. She enjoyed plants and gardening. Most of all she loved the time she spent surrounded by her family and friends.

Surviving to honor her memory are her sons, Edgar Smith, Jr. and wife Glenda of League City, Texas, Everett Smith and wife, Betty, Elden Smith, Ivan Smith and wife, Ruth, Ronald Smith all of Coffeyville, Kansas daughter, Sharon Yeubanks; daughter-in-law Diann Smith both of Coffeyville, Kansas; 45 grandchildren; 99 great grandchildren and 52 great-great grandchildren; brother, Johnny Shamblin and wife, Judy of California; sister, Helen Sumter of Coffeyville, Kansas.

In addition to her parents, Pleas and Eva and loving husband, Edgar, she was also preceded in death by her son, Donald Smith; daughter, Phyllis Sisco; brother, Clarence Shamblin; sisters, Rosalie Ackerberg, Darlene Cosette McCormick; daughter-in-law, Nancy Smith; son-in-laws, Henry Sisco and Carroll Yeubanks.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Chaplain Mike Graham will officiate. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made payable to the American Cancer Society 330 S Main, Suite 100, Wichita, KS 67202; these may also be left with the funeral home.
