Mildred Marie Hallum entered into rest November 18, 2012 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the Church of Christ, 1005 Siggins St., Coffeyville, Kansas, with Clint Kastler officiating, the family has entrusted FordWulfBruns Chapel with the service. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Park also of Coffeyville, Kansas.
Visitation hours will be from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m, Tuesday, November 20, 2012, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at the FordWulfBruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials be made in honor of Mrs. Hallum to Cookson Hills or Hope Harbor. Contributions may be left with FordWulfBruns Chapel.
Mildred was born to Dewey Warehime and Hazel Stanton Warehime on September 30, 1924 at Bartlesville, OK. the 4th child of nine siblings. She attended Rice Creek School for two years, moved to Okesa, OK with her family and attended Okesa School. Prior to graduating from Nelagamy High School in 1943, she married her high school sweetheart Johnnie Elmer Hallum, November 1, 1942 They spent 62 happy years together and to this union were born three children, two sons and one daughter.
In 1954, she and her husband were involved in the start up business of HH Oil Field Service where she worked as coowner and office manager and book keeper for 43 years, and served 10 years on the board of directors of Hallum Tooling Inc. of Wichita, KS. She was also a stay at home mom and she dearly loved caring for her family.
She is survived by her daughter Karen Benbrook, of the home, who has been her constant companion and care giver for 8 years. She is also survived by one brother, Marvin Warehime of Bartlesville, OK, sister Dorothy Lee Doyle Pendley of Rush Springs, OK, brother in law Eriel Newcomb of Jennings, OK, brother in law Lloyd J. Hallum of Chautauqua, KS, sister in law Emma Lu Wright of Appleton WI, three grandsons, Mark Kristen Hallum of Junction City, KS Matthew Kim Hallum of Katy, TX, Brian Amber Hallum of Coffeyville, KS, and seven great grandchildren Evan, Sarah, Sterling, Winston, Elias, Sophia and Destani, along with several nieces and nephews and a wonderful church family.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, husband Elmer in 2004, sons Calvin Hallum of Coffeyville, KS,in 1997, Duane Hallum of Dallas TX. in 1975, and soninlaw Gary Benbrook of Grove, OK. in 2004.
Her hobbies were reading, cooking, especially famous and often requested homemade chicken and noodles and travel. During her retirement years, she and Elmer belonged to the Holiday Ramblers Travel Club and visited every state but four, Mexico and Canada. They spent the last several years of their marriage wintering in the valley at Harlengen TX.
