Mildred Lorene Benton Harris 1914 2006 Mildred Lorene Benton Harris, age 92, Windsor Place resident entered into rest early Friday morning, November 24, 2006 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, Coffeyville, Ks. Mildred Harris was born October 31, 1914 in West Plains, Missouri, to Richard B. Benton and Lottie Taylor Benton. She attended elementary school in Arkansas before moving with her parents to Coffeyville where she attended elementary school and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School and Coffeyville Junior College. She received a bachelors degree in education and psychology from Pittsburg State University. She also attended Wichita State University. On December 26, 1936 she married Floyd Cecil Harris, they made their home in Coffeyville until moving to Liberty Rt. 1, for about 13 years, returning to make their home in Coffeyville in 1962. Mr. Harris preceded her in death on May 7, 1981. Mrs. Harris taught school for 34 years in Labette and Montgomery Counties. The last 17 years she taught in the Coffeyville school system including West Coffeyville Elementary and Garfield Elementary. She retired from Garfield Elementary in 1979. Mrs. Harris was an active member of the Coffeyville First Christian Church, where she was past president of Christian Womens Fellowship, Chairman of Christian Education, Youth Leader, Chairman of Worship, Clerk of the Board. She was past President of Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, and had served on the Executive Board for American Association of University Women. She was a member of the Coffeyville Area Unit of Retired Teachers, and Rebecca Lodge. She was interested in many things, including oil painting, reading and enjoying friends and family. She is survived by two nieces, Judy and her husband Jim Cable, of Bartlesville, Ok. And Paula Newman of Coffeyville, One nephew, Larry Benton of Coffeyville and one half brother, Rick Benton of Coffeyville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Floyd, one brother Noble Benton and one sister, Pauline Baldauf. Memorials in her name can be made to the American Heart Association co Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home. Calling hours will be Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, KS. 67337 Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, KS. 67337.
