Neva Burnett

Neva Burnett, 99, of Windsor Place, Coffeyville, Kansas entered her eternal home October 16, 2008. Neva was born December, 20, 1908 to George W. and Minnie Campbell Burnett near Monticello, Kentucky. At age 11, she received Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized in a pool of spring water and joined the Big Springs Baptist Church of Burfield, Kentucky. At age 12 she moved to Kansas with her family, settling near Edna. She attended Ripon Grade School and graduated as valedictorian of her class at Edna High School. She lived in the Edna area until her health required her to be in a nursing home. Neva was a loving and loyal person who spent many years of her life caring for her parents. She was loved and highly respected by all who knew her. Her hobbies were crocheting, piecing quilts, and gardening. She had a large flower garden as long as she was able to care for it. Survivors include one sister, Flonnie Knewtson and one brother, Woodrow Burnett, both of Edna; three nephews and their spouses, Gilbert and Jane Burnett, Edna; Jim and Barbara Burnett, Waterford, Michigan; David and Linda Knewtson, Nixa, Missouri; a niece, Beverly Knewtson, Coffeyville; six great nephews and nieces and spouses, Gregg and Lisa Burnett, Evergreen, Colorado; Andrew and Dawn Burnett, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Michelle and Troy Henry, Greenville, Texas; Jason and Tiana Knewtson, Fredericksburg, Virginia; Jeremy and Sherry Knewtson, Lees Summit, Missouri; Melinda and Jeremy Reed, Glendale, Missouri; 11 great-great nephews and nieces and special friends Ollie Kells, Florence, Kentucky and Rose Burnett, Novi, Michigan. Neva was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a brother who died in infancy, two sisters-in-law, Virginia Burnett and Ida Burnett, and a brother-in-law, Raymond Knewtson. Neva had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Edna 80 years. Since her eye sight was almost totally gone as well as her hearing, as long as she was able she spent her time listening to gospel broadcasting on TV through a special earpiece her nephew, Gilbert Burnett, fixed for her. She enjoyed visiting with people who stopped by to visit her and was always interested in what all of the family was doing, as well as other people in the community whom she knew. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the First Baptist Church at Edna with Rev. Charles Evans officiating. Burial will be in the North Edna Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, October 20, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to sign the guest register at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Edna or Gideons International in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. The Family would like to thank the staff and employees of Windsor Place in Coffeyville for the loving care they gave Neva.
