Nina DeMarcus Fields, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on April 9, 2012, after a threemonth rehabilitation from a broken hip. The family will receive friends at the PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, KS on Friday, April 13th at 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 14th at 11 a.m. Internment will be held later in Denver, Colorado. Nina E. Thomas 98 years old was born in Dewey, Oklahoma on September 11, 1913, to Wilbur and Nettie Johnson Thomas, rural farmers in the Copan, OK area. After graduating from Caney High School, she attended business school. She met and married Keith W. DeMarcus in 1936, moving away to Oregon and later living in Colorado. During their marriage they raised two daughters, entertained friends, square danced, and traveled throughout the USA to nearly all of the states including Alaska and Hawaii as well as the Canadian Rockies. Upon his death in 1985, she reestablished ties with friends, notably Clyde C. Fields. They married in 1986. She has lived in Caney, Kansas since their marriage. As a devoted wife and loving mother, she will be remembered for her gifts of sewing, sharing knitting and crocheting items, playing the piano, and reading. She encouraged her daughters to be involved in Girl Scouts, 4H, Rainbow Girls, and to develop their musical and intellectual talents. As a member of the United Methodist Church, in Denver, Colorado and Caney, Kansas, she contributed much time, energy, and financial support to a variety of programs and activities. Nina also loved to watch the grandchildren play until her eyesight failed and she could no longer see. She leaves her daughters Sandra Bill Nesbitt of Grand Junction, Colorado, Sheryl Mark Maxwell of Memphis, Tennessee four grandsons, Eric, Brent Karen, Scott, and Kyle Kathryn and one great granddaughter, Lillian Elizabeth. She also leaves one sisterinlaw Hazel Miller, and various nieces and nephews located throughout the United States. Nina was preceded in death by her first husband of 48 years, Keith W. DeMarcus. She is survived by her current husband of 26 years, Clyde C. Fields. She leaves three stepchildren, Dwight Marcia Fields, Linda Warren Newby, Loyd Patty Fields and many stepgrandchildren and stepgreatgrandchildren from her marriage to Clyde Fields. The family asks that memorial contributions can be made to the Caney United Methodist Church or a charity of the donors choice these may be left with the funeral home.
