Norma Alter Norma Elaine Alter of Coffeyville, KS, died Friday, October 22, 2010, in Coffeyville. She was 87. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery Friends may call to register on Tuesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 6:30 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. The daughter of William and Wilhelmena Groen Dreessen, she was born June 18, 1923, in Breda, Iowa. She graduated from Wall Lake High School, in Wall Lake, IA, in 1940. She graduated from Souix City Business College of Souix City, IA, in 1945. On Nov. 12 1946, she was united in marriage to Dr. Ralph E. Alter in Des Moines, IA. The couple moved to Coffeyville in 1946 where Dr. Alter established a veterinary practice. Mrs. Alter has assisted her husband in that practice since its inception. He survives at the home. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the CRMC Auxiliary, the KState Presidents Club, and the AVMA, KVMA and OVMA Auxiliaries. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Steve Alter of Tulsa, OK two sisters, Dorothy Hollander of Phoenix, AZ, and Donna Miller of Coffeyville, KS: one granddaughter, Staci AlterAbbott of Tulsa, OK and one greatgrandson, Matt Winders of Tulsa, OK. She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Alfred, Leonard and Marvin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alter Veterinarian Foundation at Coffeyville Community College or the First United Methodist Church.
