Norman LaRue Phipps, 82, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Missouri. He was born July 28, 1926 in Coffeyville, Kansas, the son of Erwin and Sylvia Barnard Clough. He married Nila Louise Scott in Coffeyville and they celebrated sixty years of marriage in November of 2008. Norman worked for Sears Roebuck for 43 years as a
ision manager of sales. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville and also attended the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Missouri. Norman served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign including direct service under General Douglas McArthur. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 102 in Coffeyville, the Coffeyville Chamber of Commerce, was a Mirza Shriner, was a member of the Ararat Shrine in Kansas City, Missouri, was a Boy Scout leader of Troop 48 at the Presbyterian Church for 25 years, receiving the Silver Beaver Award and was a member of American Legion 40amp;8 and the VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Pamela Ann Phipps. Survivors include his wife Nila Louise Scott Phipps of the home. Daughters Debbie Phipps Melies and husband Paul of Coffeyville and Barbara Phipps Scowley and husband Dr. John Scowley of Richmond, Missouri, brothers Curly Clough of Wichita, Kansas, Fred Clough of Hutchinson, Kansas, sisters Marcia Hemman of Coffeyville, Vickie Collins of Talala, Oklahoma, grandchildren John Scott Scowley, Erica Scowley, Brian Melies and Eric Melies and nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Norman Phipps will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday May 22, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home 2405 Woodland, Coffeyville, Kansas celebrated by Pastors Marty McCord and Jill Noble. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, May 21, 2009 from 6:00 until 7:00p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Restlawn Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas. The family requests memorial contributions to the First Southern Baptist Church 2701 W 8th Street, Coffeyville, Ks 67337 or United Christian Presbyterian Church: 501 No. Sparten Dr., Richmond, Missouri 64085.
