Norris O. White Whiz 1923 2007 Norris O. White Whiz, age 83, entered into rest on February 27, 2007 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville. He was born May 5, 1923 to Omer and Amanda Holmquist White in Coffeyville. Mr. White attended schools in Coffeyville and graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1940. He also attended classes at CCC. In April 1940, he enlisted in the Kansas National Guard Medical Detachment 114 Calvary Regiment. In December 1940, Norris saw active duty with the 127 Field Artillery Regiment, Battery B. He served in Australia, was wounded in Germany and returned to the U.S. and discharged August 17, 1945. On August 25, 1945, Mr. White began working at Sherwin Williams Chemicals where he worked for 40 years, retiring in 1985. He married Marian Blumenstein on June 3, 1948 in Coffeyville. Mrs. White passed away in May of 2004. Mr. White reenlisted in the Army in 1955, retiring as Master Sergeant in 1983 after 28 years of service including serving in Rhineland, Central Europe, Paqua and New Guinea. While in the service, he received an American Defense Service Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal, a Distinguished Unit Badge and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder, Board Moderator, Trustee and Elder Emertius. He also taught Sunday School for several years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. Other memberships include the Triple C Investment Club, Coffeyville Amateur Radio Club. He was a member of the U.S. Army Mars Radio Network for 45 years. Survivors include son, Stephen O. White of Coffeyville; daughters, Vickie L. Voelzke and Peggy E. Dye, both of Coffeyville; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; sister, June Hearst, two brothers, Roy amp; Frank White. Calling hours visitation: Mr. White will lie in state on Friday, March 2, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville. Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society or The American Red Cross co Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville. Rev. Susan Brown will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 2000 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 1022 of Coffeyville.
