Opal Bloyd

Opal O. Bloyd Opal Olive Bloyd of Coffeyville, KS, died Saturday, October 20, 2007, at her home. She was 89. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The casket has been closed. Friends may call at the funeral home to register Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon. The family would welcome friends at Mrs. Bloyds residence. The daughter of Fred D. and Hattie Richardson Smothermon, she was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Knowles, OK. She graduated from high school in Blackwell, OK. She was united in marriage to Donald L. Bloyd on Oct. 16, 1936. They moved to Coffeyville in 1955. He preceded her in death in 1986. Mrs. Bloyd was a Certified Nurses Assistant at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center for 44 years. While employed there, she spent the majority of her time taking care of new mothers and their babies. She was a long time member of the First Christian Church. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Atkins of Arkansas City, KS, and Linda Hale and her husband Lonnie of Oklahoma City, OK; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three nephews; and one niece. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; one sister; and one son-in-law, Mike Atkins. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or Harry Hynes Hospice.
