Rosa Pearl Young, 100, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Windsor Place. Pearl was born December 8th, 1910 in Nowata County, Oklahoma to Allen and RosaMae Holloway Hoffman. She grew up west of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma on a ranch and attended the rural Hoffman School that her father founded. She attended High School in Wann, Oklahoma. She traveled by train to attend high school and stayed during the week in Wann with family and would return home by train on weekends. On November 26, 1930 she was united in marriage to Buck Young. Pearl was a home maker, gardener, and a farmer with her husband. She enjoyed gardening and quilting and most of all fellowship with her family and friends. She was a 4H leader, Home Demonstration Club Leader, a member or the Eastern Star and a member of the South Coffeyville United Methodist Church where she enjoyed being a Sunday School Teacher and Choir Director. Pearl was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother throughout her life. She loved not only her family, but also many other young people in her church and community. A celebration of her life was held on her 100th birthday in December, 2010. This was a joyous day for Pearl, as more than 150 friends and relatives gathered to honor her life. She would want to be remembered as she was on that special day. Pearls family would like to express appreciation to the angels of Windsor Place, who so lovingly cared for her in the last days of her life. Surviving to honor her memory are her daughters, Shirley Applebee and husband, Robert of Anchorage, AK, Billie Dunbar of Davis, CA brother, Allen Hoffman, Jr. of Lawrence, KS seven grandchildren eight greatgrandchildren and seven greatgreatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Mae loving husband, Buck and brothers, Clyde, Homer and Harold Hoffman. Friends may call on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. to sign the guest register at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in the garden of Peace in Coffeyville. Reverend Steve Posey will officiate. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation. These donations can be left with the funeral home.
