Peggy Lorene Smith age 87, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, passed away March 13, 2017 at her home.
Peggy was born on September 4, 1929 in South Coffeyville to Shelley K and Julia May (Knisley) Smith. She attended school at Snow Creek and high school at Lenapah. After high school she met and later married the late Eugene Maggard. The couple was blessed with five sons and a daughter. Peggy devoted her life's work to raising her children and managing the household. Eugene and Peggy were members of a small bluegrass band and would take their act to local nursing homes to entertain the residents, they were also avid square dancers. Peggy was a down to earth, fun-loving lady that enjoyed going to casinos, playing bingo, crafts, and sewing; she even made the outfits for the square dancers. She attended church at the Southview Church of God.
Those left to cherish her memory are, her sons; Ronnie Maggard, Bob Maggard, Dean Maggard, Darrell Maggard, daughter; Shelley Maggard, sisters; Julia Smith and Joyce Banta, 20 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene, a son, David Maggard, brothers, Bill Smith and Eugene Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2:00pm at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel 2405 Woodland Ave, Coffeyville, KS 67337. Rev. John Lockaby and Rev. Steve Griffin of Southview Church of God will be officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to sign the register and greet the family on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Chapel from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
