Phoebe Jane Drake (94) of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024, in Bel Aire Kansas at the Catholic care home. Phoebe was born on December 11, 1930, to Benjamin McKinley Darbe Senior and Irene Snyder.
On October 13, 1956, Phoebe married the love of her life, James Fran Drake, her husband of 50 years. They were true partners in everything. They enjoyed a good debate and vacation trips that often lead to a roadside Stuckey’s and Indian jewelry shopping.
Phoebe had many talents; most notably were her hand-sewn blankets that had been given to each grandchild. She spent many years involved with the Lutheran church and the county extension office. She liked to craft and hand paint quilts, and in her later years she found enjoyment in reading and resting.
Phoebe is survived by her son, Dennis Drake, Wichita, Kansas and her sister Edath Ann Yoffee and 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James Drake, daughters, Marsha Brown, Janie Farris, Diane McDonnell and her brothers Benjamin Mckinley Darbe Jr., Ray Edward Darbe, James Michael Darbe, and sister Bess Irene Howard.
Services will be held at 10am, Saturday, December 28 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, KS. with Pastor Jon Franson of Coffeyville St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Phoebe will be laid to rest with her husband James Drake at the Neodesha City Cemetery. To leave an online condolence or share a memory visit her obituary page under www.fordwulfbrunschapel.com
