Retired Major Howard T. Storm, 89, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.

Howard was born on January 28, 1924, in Edna, Kansas to Keith Orbin Maggie Ruth Storm. Howard grew up and attended school in Edna. He graduated from Edna High School and continued on to receive a degree from Chanute Junior College.

After college, Howard served two years in the South Pacific during World War II for the United States Navy then served eighteen years in the United States Army, serving in Korea and Vietnam.

On April 14, 1979 he was united in marriage to Winnona A. Martin in Valeda, Kansas. The couple made their home there for several years until moving to the Coffeyville area around 1998. Howard served as the Chief of Police in Chanute, Kansas until his retirement. Following his retirement he went back to work for Labette County Sheriffs Department.

Howard was a member of the Valeda United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Post 1022, American Legion Post 20, Retired Officers Association, Kansas Peace Officers Association, Order of the Eastern Star Edna Lodge, Coffeyville Fraternal Order of Police and was a past member of the Civil Defense Program.
He enjoyed working on radios or out in his shop. He was quite a handyman and loved to tinker. He also enjoyed gardening. Most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his family.

Surviving to honor his memory is his wife, Winnona of the home daughterinlaw Rita Storm of North Carolina stepsons, Dan Seger and wife Ann of Big Cabin, Oklahoma Randy Seger and wife Karen of Coffeyville, Kansas stepdaughter, Susan Seger Rice of Pryor, Oklahoma four grandchildren ten stepgrandchildren and fifteen greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents wife, Frances M. Nash Storm who passed Oct. 11, 1978 sons, Charles, Robert and Patrick Storm stepson, Steven Seger and a sister, Berlene Smith.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Valeda United Methodist Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice these may be left with the funeral home.
