REVEREND HENRY CLAY CALHOUN, III Reverend Henry Clay Calhoun, III, 74, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away, Sunday, February 04, 2007 at his home in Coffeyville. Henry Clay Calhoun, III was born June 22, 1932 to Henry C. Calhoun, II and Vera Ola Owens Calhoun in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Reverend Calhoun was the descendant of pioneers, his great grandfather having bought 80 acres of land in Sycamore, Kansas in 1871. Reverend Calhoun39;s father was in the oil business and they moved to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1943. In 1951 Reverend Calhoun met Phyllis Marie Lacy at Centenary College in Shreveport and they were married in 1952. Henry graduated from Texas Wesleyan University in 1956 and from Memphis Theological Seminary in 1967. Additional graduate studies were done at Austin Presbyterian Seminary, Columbia Theological Seminary and Oxford University. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Technical Services Division. Reverend Calhoun served as a pastor of churches in Arkansas and Mississippi for eighteen years. He served Medicalodges, Inc. as Chief Chaplain and Employee Relations Officer for seventeen years where he also later served as vice president. Most recently he has been Senior Adult Pastor at the First Assembly of God in Coffeyville, Kansas. Reverend Calhoun was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, in August of 1998. They had two children who survive, Pamela Chambliss of Southhaven, Mississippi and Dr. John C. Calhoun of Coffeyville, Kansas; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Visitation hours for Reverend Calhoun will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 07, 2007 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford Wulf Bruns Chapel with the family greeting friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services for Reverend Henry Clay Calhoun, III will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 08, 2007 at the Assembly of God Church, 1504 W. 8th, Coffeyville, Kansas with Pastor James Crandall officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 08, 2007 at the Oaklawn Cemetery, Tulsa, Oklahoma. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the First Assembly of God Church, Coffeyville, Kansas or the Gideon39;s. Memorials may be left with the funeral home.
