Reverend Galen Dwane Martin Former Coffeyville resident, Reverend Galen Dwane Martin, died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 in Longmont, Colorado. He was 64. Galen was born March 31, 1943 to Dale and Marjorie Clark Martin in Corvallis, Oregon where his father was stationed with the US Army. When Dale was sent to fight in the European Theatre during WWII, Marjorie moved the family back to their hometown of Coffeyville, Kansas and it was there that they learned of Dales death in Luxembourg. Marjorie later married Wayne Wilson, who became the only father Galen ever knew. He graduated from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville in 1961, and played football at Coffeyville Junior College. On November 22, 1963, Galen married Donna Rae Dornan in Coffeyville. Sensing a call to the ministry, he attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri and later served as pastor of the Cherryvale Assembly of God Church for nearly 17 years. He also served as a pastor in Branson, Missouri, where he also had the privilege of portraying the Shepherd in The Shepherd of the Hills outdoor drama for 10 years. The couple moved to Longmont in 2005 where he was head of the facilitiesmaintenance staff and an assistant football coach with Longmont Christian School. Rev. Martin was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, camp and ski. He loved playing, participating, watching, and coaching sports. But most of all, he cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. Rev. Martin will be deeply missed by his wife, Donna Martin, of Longmont; two sons, David Martin and his wife, Angela, of Ottawa, Kansas, and Jerry Martin and his wife, Andrea, of Longmont; his parents, Wayne and Marjorie Wilson of Dearing, Kansas; a brother, Patrick D. Martin and his wife, Karen, of Denton, Texas; a sister, Delpha Yeats of Coffeyville; and eight grandchildren, Cade, Jonathan, Matthew, Zachary, Macy, Daniel, Faith, and Abigail. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesay, August 22, 2007 at the First Assembly of God Church in Coffeyville. Reverend David Satterfield of Springfield, Missouri will officiate. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chaple, 2405 Woodland, Coffeyville.
