Rex H. Merriman 1909 - 2006 Rex H. Merriman, age 96, Coffeyville, Kansas resident entered into rest on August 17, 2006 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born in Prairie Grove, Arkansas on August 22, 1909 to Fred Merriman and Eulah Blakemore Merriman. He grew up on a family farm as a child. He attended the Lenapah, Oklahoma School Systems. Rex lived in Lenapah, Oklahoma from 1918 to 1947 and has made his home in Coffeyville since 1947. Rex served in World War II US Army Veteran with the 693 rd Artillery Division with rank of SGT. Entered into service in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma in 1940 and was honorably discharged from Ft. Smith, Arkansas in 1945. On August 17, 1945 he married Daisy Lois Wilson in Independence, Ks.. She preceded him in death on February 16, 1976. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion, Kansas Sun Chasers Camping Club, Chief Black Dogs Camping Club. Rex worked in the Janitorial Department of USD 445 at the Lowell School and at the School Board office for 30 years. He also worked for Ludiweci-Celadon Roof and Tile in Coffeyville for 12 years. Survivors include: Son, Phillip Merriman, Coffeyville, Ks.; 2 brothers, Brady Merriman, Coffeyville, Ks.; Bill Merriman, Mena, Ar.; 2 sisters, Lucille Williford, Coffeyville, Ks.; Ruth Higgins, Prescott, Az; Four Grandchildren and Five Great Grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Eulah, 2 brothers, Lewis and Paul and 1 sister, Martha Lewin. VisitationCalling hours: His body will lie in state on Sunday, August 20, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, KS. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Graveside Services are 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 21, 2006 at the Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 2000 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, KS. Family and friends will gather at the graveside prior to services. Memorial contributions may be given to the Eden Alternative at Windsor Place. Arrangements are under the care of Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, KS.
