Richard B. Starchy Hill age 81 of South Coffeyville, OK passed away on October 15, 2014 at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the FordWulfBruns Chapel at 2:00 pm officiated by Pastor John Dixon of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Coffeyville. Burial will follow at the North Edna Cemetery in Edna, Kansas. Military Honors will be provided by the Coffeyville VFW Post 1022 and the Coffeyville American Legion Post 20. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 from noon to 8 with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 pm at the FordWulfBruns Chapel.
Richard was born on June 9, 1933 to Benjamin Francis Hill and Bessie Mae Elder Hill in Centralia, Oklahoma. Richards dad gave him a nick name that stuck for life. You see he always wanted his clothes with a heavy starch and ironed and his dad started calling him Starchy as a young boy. All that knew him still called him Starchy. He wasnt a complainer, when asked if he was feeling okay he would reply with You cant hurt steel, that his way of saying he was okay.
On October 30, 1978 he married Mildred Mickey A. Miller Hill she preceded him in death on September 14, 1996. Together they joined four children to raise each as their own. Starchy has resided in the area for over fortyfive years. He was a butcher at the Cold Pack Meat Processing Plant of Coffeyville where he retired. After retirement he drove a truck for Superior Linens and then driving for Comforting Angels and Golden Carriage, he truly enjoyed helping others. He joined the US Army as a young man and received an honorable discharge for his service. He was a Lifetime Member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Survivors include his children, Richard Rocky Hill and his wife Betty of Judsonia, Arkansas, Rowdy Hill and wife Malena of Traskwood, Arkansas, Jerry W. Baker and his wife Debra of Olathe, Kansas, Eva J. Alexander and her husband Darrel of Roswell, New Mexico brother, Billy Hill of Talala, Oklahoma sisters, Anna Mae Benjamin of Tyro, Kansas and LaHonda Choate of Vinita, Oklahoma sixteen grandchildren 23 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by three brothers, Pete Hill, Charles Hill and J. O Hill.
